Helpful Hints
PY Series Permanent Pacing Leads
With the introduction of the PY series permanent pacing leads, Oscor Inc.
would like to offer some helpful hints regarding the operation of the helix
fixation mechanism:
In-Patient Use: The instructions for use for the PY series pacing lead recommends a maximum of 10-12 turns clockwise (from a fully retracted position) to extend the helix once the lead is inside the body.
Field Trial (Dry Run): Helix extension and retraction outside the body requires only 6-8 turns. Excessive turns during a dry-run can place undue stress on the movable parts of the helix and could result in damage to the fixation mechanism. Therefore, when checking the operation of the helix mechanism outside the body, no more than 6-8 turns clockwise or counter-clockwise should be performed to extend or retract the helix. When the helix is already in the retracted and/or extended position, further retraction and/or extension should be avoided.
IMPORTANT
NOTE: The helix is fully retracted when it is slightly visible at
the lead’s distal tip. The pointed tip of the helix will “stick
out.”
