KY Torque Release

Due to the KY fixation procedure, the distal end of the lead is twisted against the proximal end. The resulting torque should be neutralized by turning the connector, (while holding the stylet immobile), approximately two turns CLOCKWISE. In fact, if the tip has been fixed securely, a slight tendency to de-torque may be observed by the lead untwisting CLOCKWISE. This torque release procedure is necessary to keep the screw tip in place, and will help ease the withdrawal of the stylet. By pulling carefully on the lead, it is possible to determine if the tip is securely fastened.

ANCHORING TINED LEADS

Final Steps to Anchor a Tined Lead

After finding the appropriate position of the lead, turn the lead’s tip a half turn counterclockwise followed by a half turn clockwise to unfold the tines behind the trabecular network. RECHECK the thresholds.

This little maneuver will diminish a possible postoperative dislodgement.
