Oscor, Inc., one of the leading medical device manufacturers in the Southeast has announced a major expansion of their facilities in Palm Harbor. The company designs, manufactures and markets highly specialized permanent and temporary pacing lead systems that are used in connection with implantable and temporary pacemaker systems to treat cardiac disorders. Oscor’s expansion will add 55 new jobs to their Pinellas County operations. The company will also increase their footprint with 20,000 square feet of new construction adjacent to their existing 40,000 square foot facility. The expansion is slated to include clean room space, as well as plastic injection molding facilities and a larger assembly area. “Our focus on quality and innovation has allowed us to continue to expand our operations. We’ve found Pinellas County allows us easy access to our customers in North and South America, as well as our Caribbean operations,” explained Thomas Osypka, Oscor’s President and CEO. Oscor, Inc. has utilized Florida’s Incumbent Worker Training Program in the past, which provides employers with funds to train currently employed workers, ensuring local firms and workers keep their competitive edge in an increasingly global economy. The program addresses retraining to meet changing skill requirements resulting from new technologies throughout all industry sectors. Pinellas County is a leader in the state’s medical device manufacturing sector, with over 150 medical technologies companies that pay an average wage of over $47,000. “Oscor’s success is a direct result of the team we’ve assembled in Palm Harbor. We’ve invested in our employees, systems and technology. Now we’re seeing a return on that investment that will allow us to continue our remarkable growth in this sector,” shared Osypka. For this current expansion, Oscor was approved for Florida’s Qualified Targeted Industry tax refund program. This program is available to new and expanding Florida businesses in targeted, high-growth industries that create at least 10 new jobs paying 115 percent of the average annual wage. This refund will allow the company to receive tax refunds of $3,000 per new job created. As featured in Pinellas County Economic Development www.pced.org
